AK Awareness
Who we are?
We are AK Awareness, an independent collective of fans from different corners of the Millerntor. We came together because we don’t want to put up with unacceptable behaviour any longer – both in and outside the stadium.
And yes, sadly this still happens in supposedly progressive and left-wing spaces.
What do we do?
We work against (structural) discrimination on matchdays and within the St. Pauli fanbase, attempting to combat it through education. Our focus is primarily on supporting and empowering those affected by abusive and inappropriate behaviour and we can be consulted by anyone who has experienced such issues.
We also run workshops to educate and familiarise the fanbase with our topics, with the aim being for each individual to take responsibility for their own actions, as well as those of their group and the wider fan community – and not just in the stadium, everywhere else too! Participants then have the opportunity to support AK Awareness teams at events like the Antira tournament or on special train trips to away games.
We also work preventively and organise open events to familiarise people with the topics we engage with. Our work is aimed at people and groups within the St. Pauli sphere. As fans and not employees, we are connected to the Fanladen but still work closely with the club. All our work is done by volunteers.
Why is Awareness so important and what is our goal?
As stadiums are not free from the inequalities and injustices that exist in wider society, we’re committed to fighting the power structures that persist. We want everyone in the stands to feel comfortable and have a positive matchday experience.
Do we need support and who can help out?
Always! We welcome anyone who supports our area of work and wants to push it further into the mainstream. Our real goal is to no longer be needed, but we can only achieve this by working together.
